Region Champ Stevens One of Three Trigg State Qualifiers

2-11-stevens

Trigg County had three wrestlers qualify for the state wrestling tournament and one individual champion as a result of Saturday’s Region I Tournament at Ohio County High School.

Colin Stevens won the 160-pound class, pinning Union County’s Carlos Perry in the semifinals and pinning Cameron Coleman of Christian County 1:57 into the championship match. The region title is a redemption of sorts for the sophomore, who missed the title match last year with an injury and finished second due to a forfeit.

Ethan Futrell advanced to the title match of the 126-pound class where he lost a 13-0 major decision to Union County’s Sam Bacon,

Isaac Aguiar finished fourth in the 132-pound class, dropping an 11-1 decision to Dylan Martin of McCracken County in the third place match.

Ty Saez finished in sixth place in the 185-pound division but did not qualify for the state tournament.

As a team, Trigg County finished in eight place with 59 points.
