David Taylor, former Athletic Director for Heritage Christian Academy, says the position he held for over a decade was “a dream job,” one he will surely miss. Taylor resigned due to health reasons after 13 years in the role. Looking back, Taylor says he’s had a good run.

Taylor says the school’s headmaster, Linda Garris, at first asked if he’d like to be the Interim Athletic Director. He said yes and having previously served as a high school basketball coach in Louisville, was no stranger to sports. Following a short hiatus from 1997 to 1999, Taylor got back into it after taking up residence in Hopkinsville. When asked what his favorite part of the job was, he had this to say:

Not surprisingly, there are certain memories that stick out to him. Taylor cites HCA alumnus John Fraley, who averaged 23 points and 14 rebounds per game, as one such memory. Fraley went on to lead the school to a 23-4 overall record and the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association Region 1 Championship.

Taylor adds he has been blessed in others ways as well. He says that includes having been surrounded by good coaches.

One highlight came when Rogers’s team won the KCAA state title in volleyball.

When asked what it takes to be an Athletic Director, Taylor replies:

Taylor mentored “a bunch of great kids” while at HCA, a school he also notes as great, whose headmaster allowed him to take over and do his job. During his tenure, Taylor says he often reminded students to do their best and have fun. They’ll likely remember an adage of his in the years to come:
