VIDEO – Caldwell’s Gray Advances to Wrestling Semifinals

Caldwell County has a wrestler alive in the semifinal round of the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Lexington.

Dylan Gray who is ranked second in the 182-pound class by KentuckyWrestling.com, made quick work of his first two opponents, needing 38 seconds to pin Will Marshall of Lafayette and 1:12 to pin No. 17 William Elliott of PRP. He scored a 4-1 decision over No. 10 Andrew Marchal of Atheron in the quarterfinals and will face No. 5 Chase Blanton of Harrison County in the semifinals.

No. 5 Dylan Walls opened with a pin of South Oldham’s Jack McCubbin inside a minute in the first round and a pin of Iroquois’ July Soe (No 21) in the second round. He faced the top wrestler in the 106-pound class in the quarterfinals, Sam Grandstaff of Conner, and lost a 15-2 major decision. Walls could face No. 2 Isham Peace of Walton-Verona in his first match Saturday.

At 152, No. 12 Seth Slayton won his opener 12-1 over No. 15 Cameron Bixler of Franklin County. He lost to top-ranked Zane Brown of Male in the second round. In the consolation round, Slayton was injured against No. 9 Garron Moody of Danville and saw his day come to an end.

James Jones, the 22nd ranked wrestler in the 113-pound class, opened with a loss to No. 10 Nathan Ohlmann of St. Xavier and was eliminated by Zachary Maggard of Letcher County Central.

At 138, Colin Walls opened with a loss to Montriel Ware of Southern and was eliminated by No. 22 Gage Hignite of Ashland in the consolation round.

At 145, Tristian Tinsley opened with a loss to Ryan McManus of Madison Central and was eliminated by a 10-5 decision by Kyle Mardis of Newport.

St. Xavier and defending state champion Union County are tied for first place with 108 points. Christian County is seventh with 64.5 points. Caldwell County is 26th with 27 points, followed by Hopkinsville in 45th place (13); Trigg County in 48th place (11); and Fort Campbell in 56th place (8).
