The Boys’ Fifth District Tourney is Up for Grabs

A coin toss determined the top three seeds for the Boys’ Fifth District Tournament, and this week’s event could be just as close when play begins Monday night in Marion.

Livingston Central, Lyon County, and Trigg County all put together 4-2 district marks to force the tie. Crittenden County finished 0-6 but half their losses were by five or fewer points.

In the 6pm opener, top seed Livingston Central (17-13) plays host Crittenden County (5-19). The Cardinals scored a pair of easy wins over the Rockets during the regular season. Since beating the Rockets 61-42 on Jan. 30, the Cardinals have dropped three of four. Livingston is looking for their first district title in six years.

Crittenden County’s district title drought is longer – 20 years. The Rockets have lost seven straight since an 82-73 win over Fort Campbell on Jan. 26. That was also the last time Crittenden County scored more than 60 points in a game.

In the 7:30 nightcap, two-seed Lyon County plays three-seed Trigg County. The Lyons (7-17) ended a seven-year title drought last year, beating Trigg in the semifinals. The teams split their regular season games with the home team picking up wins.

Trigg County (11-13) has a six-game losing streak to end the regular season for the second consecutive year. The Wildcats have struggled to score, topping 60 points just once in their last 12 games. Their defense, which allowed just 50 points a game in their first 18 games, have allowed 68 during the losing streak.

Monday’s winners will play in the championship game Thursday night at 7pm.

The entire Fifth District Tournament can be heard on Oldies Radio 100.9 FM and online at www.wkdzradio.com.
