Caldwell County senior Shane Burns shut down the Lyon County offense on Tuesday night, no-hitting the Lyons over seven innings to lead the Tigers to an 8-0 win at UHA in a 2nd Region All “A” Classic semifinal.  The Tigers have won six straight and stand at 10-2, while the Lyons see a four-game win streak snapped and fall to 4-2.

Caldwell took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a double by junior Oliver Parker that scored sophomore Cody Holub and senior Bryce Thomas.  Burns struck out seven through three innings, and the Tigers added another run in the top of the fourth on a Burns ground-out that brought home senior Dylan Gray.

In the fifth inning, Gray hit into a double-play allowing senior Ty Ramey to come home for a 4-0 lead.  Burns continued to mow down the Lyons, striking out four more Lyons before Caldwell blew the game open in the top of the seventh with 4 runs.  Senior Noah Brown singled to score freshman Tate Van Hooser, before a double by junior Gabe East brought in Ramey for a 6-0 score.  Senior Jase Felker doubled to left field to knock-in Brown and East for the final 2 runs.

Burns went the distance for the win, striking out fifteen and walking four.  Brown and Ramey both had two hits, with Brown knocking-in a run.  Junior Oliver Parker and Felker had a hit and 2 RBI each, while East and Gray had 1 a-piece.  Burns had an RBI, Van Hooser had a hit and a run scored, and Holub and Thomas each crossed the plate once.

Junior Dylan Capello took the loss for the Lyons, going 4.0 innings and giving up two hits and 3 earned runs, to go with two strikeouts and three walks.

Caldwell advances to Thursday’s 2nd Region All “A” Classic championship against UHA, 4-3 winners over Dawson Springs in the other semifinal.  Lyon County play again on Friday when they get another shot at the Tigers in Eddyville.
