Tim Haworth is stepping down as boys’ basketball coach at Hopkinsville High School to take a similar position at Male High School in Louisville. The move was confirmed by Hopkinsville Athletic Director Larry Cavanah.

Haworth was 200-58 in eight seasons as Hopkinsville’s head coach and leaves as the school’s second winningest coach. The Tigers won five district and five region titles under Haworth, including four straight from 2012 to 2015. Only Hopkinsville and Dawson Springs have won four straight Second Region titles.

Haworth posted an 11-3 record in the district tournament and won 17 of 18 games in the Second Region Tournament.

Hopkinsville was 4-5 at the state tournament under Haworth and advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 Sweet 16 where they lost to Madison Central.

This past season, the Tigers were considered the preseason favorite to win a second straight region title. However, Jalen Johnson missed nine games due to injury and Stephen Cager missed over half the season due to an athletic suspension.

With Johnson and Cager on the floor at the same time, the Tigers were 6-4 with wins over First Region champion McCracken County and runner-up Graves County.

The Tigers lost to eventual region champion University Heights 72-65 in the first round of the Eighth District Tournament and finished 13-14.

Haworth will take over a Male program that was 57-34 under Willie Feldhaus, who resigned in March and announced he was moving back to Lexington. The Bulldogs graduate just three seniors from a team that went 17-14 last year. Male hasn’t won a game in the Seventh Region Tournament since 2014 and the school’s last region title came in 2002.

Cavanah said Hopkinsville assistant coach Larry Miller will serve as the interim coach until a permanent coach is hired.
