Lady Colonels Mercy Rule Hoptown to Claim District Title

The Christian County Colonels showed no mercy in their two District Eight tournament games. Sending Fort Campbell packing in just two and a half innings, the Colonels came in confident with their matchup against the Hopkinsville Tigers for the championship crown.

The Tigers too, though, were coming in with a rout over University Heights in the semifinals.

However, Hoptown was no match for the juggernaut of Christian County. The Lady Colonels mercy ruled the Tigers in four innings 15-0 to claim their 14th straight district title and win their 28th consecutive district tournament game.

To start the game, though, the two clashed in the first two innings with neither team allowing a hit.

It didn’t take long, however, for the Colonel bats to heat up.

It started with six runs in the third inning, two of which resulted from a Tyler Shemwell double.

In the third, the Lady Colonels scored eight more times, including home runs from Emmy Blane and Reni Shemwell, to win the decision.

Blane led the way going 2-2 with a dinger and three RBIs. Pickle Winkler also had an efficient afternoon, scoring three of the team’s runs.

Winning pitcher Regan Hancock tossed just 44 pitches in four innings, striking out five without allowing a walk. Hancock allowed just one hit to the Tigers lineup, that coming from Morgan Hodge.

The Colonels, the No. 4 team in the final statewide coaches poll, will find out their opponent for the region tournament on Friday.
