SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – Blake Jackson

Blake Jackson has been a winner at nearly every level at baseball.  The Hoptown Hopper is currently leading the Ohio Valley League in several offensive categories including home runs.

The native from Warner Robbins, Georgia played in the 2009 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania — a memory that still ranks high on his list.  Jackson’s Georgia team went 3-0 in pool play, and Jackson homered in one of the wins.  Their only loss was to Chula Vista, California who went on to win the overall title.  Ironically, another former Hopper — Zach Denny of Russellville — was also playing in the 2009 LLWS.

Jackson played his high school baseball at Houston County High and was a teammate of current University of Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm.  With Jackson as one of the key contributors, Houston County won the school’s first baseball state title during his senior season.

Jackson signed with Georgia Tech and a couple of stops later saw him land at Middle Georgia State University in Macon.  In the spring, Jackson hit 11 home runs and had 70 RBIs while hitting .320 for the Knights, who won a Southern State Athletic Conference title.

The junior is hoping his work in Hopkinsville over the summer pays dividends and means a big senior season that will allow him to reach the pinnacle of baseball — a call to the Major Leagues.
