Lyon County scored two second half goals to beat Trigg County 3-1 Monday and wrap up the number one seed in the girls’ district tournament for the first time since 2005.

Rose Smith scored bookend goals for the Lady Lyons, and Leah Schroeder scored one in the middle as Lyon completed their first season sweep over Trigg County in 11 years.
Smith scored the first goal off a miss from Destiny Dycus in the 14th minute for a 1-0 Lady Lyon lead.

Trigg County answered six minutes later when Gracie Hill scored her first career goal in a scramble in the goal box.

Lyon County continued to force the issue and got up 24 shots in the first 50 minutes of the game. They took the lead in the 65th minute when Leah Schroeder got behind the Trigg defense for a goal and a 2-1 advantage.

Smith capped off the scoring with six minutes left in the match on a breakaway of her own.

Despite Trigg getting some good looks early, they were held to a single goal by Lyon County for the second time this year. The Lady Lyons have allowed just three goals in their three district wins.

Trigg County (3-10, 2-2) will be the number two seed in the Fifth District Tournament and will play three seed Crittenden County in the semifinals. The Lady Wildcats will host Todd County Central Thursday.

Lyon County (6-3, 4-0) will be the top seed on their home field for the tournament, that begins the week of Oct. 8. The Lady Lyons host Mayfield Tuesday.
