Playoff Picture – Hopkinsville Tigers

It would take the most unlikely of scenarios for Hopkinsville to miss the Class 4A football playoffs. With their win over Calloway County Friday, the Tigers have positioned themselves to likely repeat last year’s path.

Madisonville beat Logan County Friday to claim the district title and the No. 1 seed.

Here are the rest of the scenarios for Class 4A, District 1:

• If Logan County beats Calloway County, the Cougars will be the No. 2 seed and host a first round playoff game against the winner of Friday’s District 2 game between Allen County-Scottsville and Warren Central.

• If Logan County beats Calloway County, and Hopkinsville beats Hopkins County Central Friday, the Tigers will be the No. 3 seed and play the loser of Friday’s Franklin-Simpson/Warren East game on the road in the first round. Hoptown won at Warren East 21-7 in the first-round last year.

• If Calloway County upsets Logan County, and Hopkinsville wins Friday, there will be a 3-way tie for second place. Logan County would likely get the No. 2 seed based on the tie-breaker system for the points they get for the number of wins of the opponents they beat. Hopkinsville would get the No. 3 seed unless Calloway upsets Graves County in the final week and gets their points. Then, it’s still too close to call.

• If Calloway County beats Logan County and Hopkins County Central beats Hopkinsville, the Tigers are out of the playoffs. This appears to be the most unlikely scenario.

• If Hopkinsville and Logan County win Friday, Calloway County will be the No. 4 seed and travel to the winner of Friday’s Franklin-Simpson/Warren East game.

Likely, Hopkinsville will be the No. 3 seed and play at Warren East in the first round with a possible second round game at Madisonville looming.
