Trigg County goalie Matthew Smith tries to block a shot from Union County’s Daniel Steward

Sophomore forward Elijah Gaines led the way with a hat trick in Trigg’s 5-2 win over 2nd Region rival Union County (0-2).  Senior Daniel Steward got the Braves on the scoreboard first right before halftime as he got on the end of a long pass from junior Coy Burns.

Gaines scored the next two to give the Wildcats (2-1) the lead before Union freshman Chris Sabino scored on a volley to tie it up.  From that point on it was all Trigg County, as freshman midfielder Will Jolly and senior midfielder Javier Llarena scored on either side of another Elijah Gaines strike.  Jolly, senior defender Carter Boyd, and Javier and Cristian Llarena all had assists for the Wildcats.  Trigg out shot the Braves 14-2.

The Wildcats don’t return to the pitch until August 24th at Russellville, the same night that Union County will welcome Webster County (2-0) to Morganfield.
