Wildcats Rally For Win Over Lyon County

Even though the Fifth District is just a two-team district where both schools automatically advance to the region tournament, the matchups between Trigg County and Lyon County continue to keep their intensity.  The Wildcats rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Lyon 4-2 Tuesday in Eddyville.

Lyon County sophomore forward Bryson Penn scored his 15th goal of the season to stake the Lyons to a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats in the first 5 minutes of the match.  A short time later senior Max Wadlington doubled the Lyons’ lead, and Lyon County went into halftime up 2-0.

However, after the break the Trigg defense, led by senior Carter Boyd, bottled up the Lyon attack, allowing the Wildcats to mount a comeback.  Within the first 10 minutes of the second half Trigg County had leveled the score through goals by juniors Daniel Martin and Derek Frazier.  A short time later sophomore forward Elijah Gaines would break through the Lyon defense to put the Wildcats in the lead, and freshman Will Jolly added the 4th goal off a penalty kick for the final margin.

Trigg County (3-2), ranked 7th in the YourSportsEdge.com Second Region rankings, outshot the Lyons 9-5, while sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Smith had 3 saves for the Wildcats.  The Lyons, ranked 5th, fall to 3-3 on the season and will host Webster County (4-1) on September 1.  The Wildcats will also face the Trojans in their next game, hosting them this Thursday at the Complex.
