There are several storylines on display as high school regional golf tournaments begin play Monday across the state.

In Region One, Lyon County’s Cullan Brown not only looks to repeat as region champion, but will also try and catapult a strong performance at region into repeating as state champion.

Brown will tee off at 10:48 Monday morning at the Country Club of Paducah. He will be in a group with McCracken County’s Dalton Bagwell and Marshall County’s Jay Nimmo, who placed third at region last year.

The Lyon County senior and University of Kentucky commit did not play a traditional high school schedule this fall, opting to compete in several tournaments across the United States. He did meet the KHSAA requirement of playing in four invitational events in order to compete at the region tournament.

Trigg County’s young golf team will look to surprise some folks Monday. Ty Butts (9:18), Darrin Goodwin (9:27), Caleb Federspiel (9:36), Grayson Thomas (9:45), and Hunter Reynolds (9:54) will all try and either be one of the top two teams or top three individuals to qualify for the state tournament next week in Bowling Green.

In Region Two, Christian County teammates Carson Holmes and John Buchanan are both mentioned as contenders for the individual title that Holmes won last year as a junior. Both golfers will tee off shortly after 11am at the Madisonville Country Club.

Hopkinsville has had an up-and-down season but could make a run at a top five finish. Lee Edward Major, Cole Taylor, and James Folz will dictate their team finish with their scores and need a strong day from their fourth and final scoring golfer. Hopkinsville is one of six teams that will be in the first group that tees off at 9am.

Both University Heights Academy and Fort Campbell will use the region tournament as a building block for their future. UHA sophomore Weston Wood qualified for the All-A State Tournament, while freshman Jiles Wyatt missed making the trip by one shot.

In Region Three, Todd County will send golfers Nolan Barrow and Austin Rager to the Indian Hills Country Club with the challenge of being one of the top three golfers not on the top two teams to qualify for the state tournament.

Barrow finished as All-A Region runner-up and played in the All-A State Tournament. Rager, a sophomore, will try and crash the party and qualify in what is a tough region field.  They will tee off between 9:15 and 9:30.
