Lyon County's Cullan Brown finished second at the KHSAA State Golf Tournament Wednesday.

Cullan Brown wrapped up one of the most successful high school careers for a western Kentucky golfer not named Cochran Wednesday with a second place finish at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club.

Brown’s usually reliable driver failed him several times during his final round which left him spending more time chipping onto greens than he would have liked. The result for the Lyon County senior was a 1-over 73 that left him three shots behind the winner Jansen Preston of Lexington Christian. Brown’s final up and down round consisted of six birdies and seven bogeys.

Brown seemed out of contention after a three-putt bogey at hole 16 left him at 3-over for the round and 2-under for the tournament. He rallied to birdie 17 and 18, almost chipping in for eagle on the par-5 18th hole.

Brown was looking to become only the third golfer since 1957 to repeat as state golf champion and concludes a high school career that has seen him garner two second place finishes and a championship in the last three years.

The University of Kentucky commit will get an hour or two off to rest and then head to Oklahoma Thursday for a Ping Tournament there.
