It was billed as the quasi Second Region Boys Soccer Championship, and Tuesday’s match between Hopkinsville and Henderson County didn’t disappoint. Hoptown beat Henderson 4-3 in a match decided by penalty kicks.

Ethan Noel, Ryan Roussel, Caleb Joiner, and Tyler Aldridge all scored on their attempts in the penalty kick round. Samuel Cloutier’s kick was knocked away by Tiger goalie Xavier Bussell in the second round, and Armando Zamarripa’s shot in the fifth round missed left to preserve the victory for Hopkinsville.

The Tigers jumped ahead 2-0 in the first 11 minutes of the match on goals by Noel and Joiner. Henderson County tied the match with two goals before halftime.

Newcomb Maddux put Hoptown ahead 3-2 in the second half, but Henderson tied it with nine minutes left.

In the second overtime period, Henderson County (16-4-2) appeared to have scored the game-winner but a goal was waived off due to a push in the box by a Colonel player. The goal was one of three by Henderson nullified due to penalties in the contest.

Hopkinsville (18-4-1) will advance to Thursday’s 6pm championship game where they will play Madisonville (11-8-1), a 3-1 winner over Webster County in the other semifinal.
