You might say the Caldwell County Lady Tigers were at their “Peek” during the 7th District volleyball championship match against Madisonville Thursday night. Behind an outstanding performance from senior Carlie Peek, Caldwell County defeated the Lady Maroons 3 sets to 1 in the match played at Hopkins Central.

Caldwell County got off to a roaring start in the match winning the first set 25-18. Sheadon Allen had a huge start for the Lady Tigers with seven kills in the first set.

However, the Lady Maroons were not about to go quietly into the runner-up slot. The Lady Maroons fought back to take the second set 27-25 behind solid performances from junior Averi Moody and sophomore Madison McCabe.

It was at that point that Carlie Peek began to assert her will over the match. Caldwell County opened quickly in the 3rd set and never looked back winning 25-13. Madisonville put up a valiant effort in the fourth set, but Caldwell County was able to hold on and take the 4th and deciding set 25-22.

In addition to Peek and Allen, who added 11 kills, Abby Griggs and Olivia Mitchell, gave strong efforts as Caldwell County beat Madisonville for the third time on the season. The Lady Tigers improve to 25-9 on the season, while the Lady Maroons drop to 24-10.

The championship was the 11th straight in the 7th District for Caldwell County. The 8th straight in its current configuration.

Both teams will advance to next week’s 2nd Region tournament, which will be played at Trigg County.
