The Todd County Central boys’ basketball team is off to its best start in over two decades after an 82-46 thumping of visiting Russellville on Friday.  The Rebels now stand at 4-0 and 1-0 in the 13th District, and notch their first win over the Panthers since the 2011/12 season.

The Rebels appeared to be in for a battle early on, with the Russellville press causing problems and seeming to force Todd County to play at an uncomfortable pace.  However, they quickly adjusted, and after trailing 17-13 after the first quarter, began the second quarter employing a press of their own.  Junior center John Calvery began to prove unstoppable down low on his way to 17 first half points.  Calvery and senior guard Nolan Barrow led the second quarter explosion, outscoring the Panthers 25-8 to take a 38-25 halftime lead.  The Rebels took full advantage of their frequent trips to the foul line, shooting 11-13 as a team in the first half, with Barrow going a perfect 6-6.

The Rebels remained hot out of the halftime break, going on a 20-5 run to take a 58-30 lead with just over two minutes left in the third quarter.  Overall, they outscored the Panthers 24-12 to take a comfortable 62-37 lead into the final quarter.

With the game decided, both teams went to the bench for most of the fourth quarter, but the Rebels were still able to push the lead out, winning 82-46.  After trailing by 4 after the first quarter, Todd County outscored the Panthers by 40 points the rest of the way, sending a strong message to the rest of the 13th District.

After doing almost all of his damage when the game was still in question in the first half, Calvery finished with 19 points to lead the Rebels.  Barrow followed with 13, and senior guard Tashaun Foster added 10.  Sophomore guard Kimahri Briggs tossed in 8 points, and junior guard Clayte Weathers and sophomore guard Tanner McQuiston both had 7.  Sophomore guard Dominique Morrow scored 5, senior center Colin Sharp and sophomore guard DJ Johnson had 4, and junior forward Sydney Johnson added a bucket to round out the scoring.

Todd County will look to improve to 5-0 on Tuesday when the welcome South Warren (1-2) to Elkton.
