There are some moves in this week’s 2nd Region rankings. However, the 8th District continues to hold the top three spots.

1. (Tie) University Heights (2-1) – This is a tough call. UHA beat Hopkinsville Tuesday night at Blazer Gym, with KyKy Tandy lighting it up for 42 points. Round 2 could be a different call, depending on who is in uniform for Hopkinsville. Only time will tell.

1. (Tie) Hopkinsville (2-2) – This is a tough one. The big question is who will return to the lineup for the Tigers and when. Simply based on who has played the last couple of games, it is hard not to justify the tie. That could change depending on who takes the court in the future for Hoptown.

3. Christian County (3-1) – The Colonels looked to be contending for the #1 spot in the YSE rankings, and then they made the Tuesday night trip to Owensboro. You have to figure that was a blip on the radar and not a trend. But it still makes you go “huh?”

4. Webster County (4-1) – The decision on who to put #4 was a tough one. The deciding factor was as close as the decision. Webster beat Madisonville by one point at Hopkins Central. The Trojans only loss so far was on the road to a decent Apollo team. Could be dangerous by end of the season.

5. Madisonville (5-2) – The Maroons went across town and got a win over the rival Hopkins Central Storm. If you know that rivalry, that is no small deal. They lost late to Webster by one, and played Christian County to the final two minutes. This team, with continued improvement, could be a regional dark horse.

6. Henderson County (3-3) – Hard to get a read on this bunch of Colonels. They will not play a team from the 2nd Region until after the first of the year. Henderson is still Henderson, but at this point, hard to rank them above the top five. That could change once they play teams to their south.

7. Caldwell County (2-2) – The Tigers have not played since their loss to Mayfield. We will get a much better idea of how much this team is improving tomorrow night, as they go on the road to Dixon to take on Webster County. Caldwell appears to be better than those lower in the rankings as this point. The question is can they climb upward.

8. Union County (3-2) – The Braves won their first three, but have since lost two in a row. When you look at the wins, you start to wonder if that was more a product of who they were playing. May not find out much more about this team until a January 5th date with the Webster County Trojans.

9. Hopkins Central (2-4) – After winning their first two, the Storm have now lost four in a row. And, it does not get any easier the next time out. Hopkins Central is set to take on UHA this weekend in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic.

10. Livingston Central (3-4) – The Cardinals opened with four losses against teams from the 1st Region. They have since won three in a row. Another win or two, and they could start moving up the ladder towards the middle of the region rankings.

11. Fort Campbell (2-4) – After opening with three losses, the Falcons have won two of their last three. The only loss coming to Hopkinsville. And, that is going to happen to a bunch of teams this season. If the Falcons were just playing somewhere besides in the 8th District.

12. Dawson Springs (2-4) – The Panthers got a win over Lyon County, and then lost to St. Mary. Right now the bottom six in the 2nd Region rankings appear to be fairly close, so stability in this area of the rankings not expected to happen.

13. Trigg County (3-2) – The Wildcats ended a two game losing streak with a hard fought win Tuesday night over Lyon County. The Wildcats two losses have come by a combined seven points. We will get a better chance to judge this team Thursday when they take on Madisonville.

14. Lyon County (1-5) – The Lyons are having their struggles in the early part of the season. Max Wadlington and Gabe Board have been bright spots early. Their win is over the team ranked below them in the YSE rankings.

15. Crittenden County (1-5) – The Rockets opened the season losing five in a row. They did end that losing streak Tuesday night with a win at Christian Fellowship. A district matchup with Livingston Central is coming up Friday.
