Hopkinsville Upends Newport Central Catholic in FNB Tournament

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers picked up their third win in as many days as they knocked off Newport Central Catholic in the 3rd place game of the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren. The Lady Tigers only loss in the event came Friday, when they lost to Campbell County.

Saturday, Hopkinsville pulled away gradually, quarter by quarter to get the 61-48 win. The Lady Tigers led 18-17 after the first quarter. They would extend that slightly to 30-27 at the break.

Hopkinsville continued their slow pulling away from Newport Catholic in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored Newport 12-8 in the quarter to increase the lead to 42-35. Hopkinsville’s biggest quarter came at the end of the game, where they outscored Newport 19-13 to pull the margin out to double figures.

Breon Oldham came up big for Hopkinsville with 24 points in the contest. Jayla Rose added 19, while Yogi McKnight scored 10.

Hopkinsville ends the 2017 portion of the schedule at 12-4, and will return to action Tuesday on the road at Madisonville.
