The Todd County Central Rebels nearly pulled off a double digit rally in their final game of the South Central Bank-Halton Classic at Allen County-Scottsville Saturday. After trailing by double digits at the half, the Rebels would get as close as four, but could not overcome the Greenwood Gators.

The game got off to a high flying start, with both teams scoring more than 20 points in the first quarter. Behind the play of Jack Roberts, who hit four 3-pointers in the opening quarter, the Gators lead at the end of the quarter 29-21.

Greenwood extended the lead in the 2nd quarter. While neither team was as offensively successful in the 2nd quarter, the Gators got enough done on the court to extend the lead to 48-36 at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, the Rebels then made their push to get back in the ballgame. Todd Central’s defense limited Greenwood to 10 points in the quarter, as the Rebels came storming back to cut the lead to 58-54 at the end of three.

With the Rebels pushing hard to take the game away from the Gators, Greenwood was able to seal the win at the free throw line, connecting on 14-17 at the free throw line to clinch the win.

Todd County Central got a huge game from Tashaun Foster with 24 points, including six 3-point shots. John Calvery added 17, while Nolan Barrow had 9. Greenwood was led by Ben Carroll with 24 points.

The Rebels now drop to 7-6 on the season, and return to action Tuesday, when they host Warren East.
