Slone Shoots Lady Wildcats to Two Wins

Trigg County won two games Friday at the CCA 1st Lady Warrior Classic to advance to Saturday’s semifinal in Paducah.

The Lady Wildcats beat Pope County, Illinois 49-39 in their opener and later held off Fulton County 39-38 to pick up their second win of the day.

Katelyn Slone sparked Trigg County’s fast start against Pope County by knocking down three 3-pointers and scoring 11 points as the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 19-8 lead. Trigg upped their lead to 30-10 at halftime before Pope County began to chip away at the lead in the second half.

Dede Barbee came off the bench to score 11 points, while Rylee Bush and Lauren Oliver both scored seven points.
Trigg County had trouble extending their lead due to 12-of-27 shooting at the free throw line.

Kristen Weaver scored 20 points to lead Pope County.

In the nightcap, Trigg began slow and scored just nine points in the first half. They turned it up a bit in the second half as they scored 15 points in each of the third and fourth quarters. Trigg trailed 15-9 at halftime but used a 15-8 third quarter run to take the lead.

Trigg’s defense came up with a big defensive stop in the final seconds to preserve the win.

Slone again led Trigg County with 12 points, while Oliver added nine points and eight rebounds. Adri Phillips scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.

Alaya Barnett led Fulton County with 11 points.

Trigg County (5-6) will play Lyon County (7-2) Saturday at 1:00 in the semifinals. Lyon County beat St. Mary 39-22 on Thursday and Mayfield 46-42 on Friday. Saturday’s game will not count toward the Fifth District standings.
