The University Heights Academy girls’ basketball team went on the road Friday night, losing 64-34 to the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons.  The Lady Blazers slip to 4-8 on the year, while Madisonville improves to 4-9.

The Lady Blazers played without senior leading scorer Anshanique Leavell, and her 15.9 points per game were certainly missed, as they fell behind 17-3 after the first quarter.  The second quarter was more of the same, with the Lady Maroons outscoring UHA 22-4 on the way to a 39-7 halftime lead.  Sophomore guard Lily Hendricks accounted for all the Lady Blazer first-half points.  For the Lady Maroons, sophomore forward Courtney Peyton poured in 23 to more than triple the Lady Blazers first-half output.

The Lady Blazers put up a better fight in the second half, only being outscored 19-15 in the third and 15-10 in the fourth, but the hole was far too deep and the Lady Maroons coasted to the 64-34 win.  Hendricks fought hard throughout, leading UHA with 21 points, followed by junior guard Alex Juckett’s 6.  Junior forward Anna Fitzpatrick scored 3, and both sophomore center Mallory Rager and senior center Naliscya Hall both had a basket.

The Lady Blazers must regroup in a hurry, as they go on the road to Paducah to face the St. Mary Lady Vikings (3-12) on Saturday.
