Tigers End Losing Streak by Dispatching Falcons

Coming off a disappointing loss to Madisonville Tuesday night, the Hopkinsville Tigers took out some of their frustrations on the Fort Campbell Falcons Friday night. The Tigers scored early and often on their way to a 101-44 win.

The Tigers defense limited the Falcons to only 4 first quarter points, while the Tiger offense got things going right from the opening tip. Tefrell Tolliver led the way in the first quarter with 8 points, as the Tigers rolled out to a 27-4 lead.

As effective as the Hopkinsville offense was in the first quarter, it was more so in the second quarter, as the Tigers put 38 points on the board to extend their lead to 65-24 at the half. Bryce Smith had 11 points in the quarter, included three 3-point shots.

The Tiger defense was again the story in the 3rd quarter. For the second time on the night, Hopkinsville limited the Falcons to 4 points in a quarter. Hopkinsville’s offense continued to click, as the Tigers put up 27 more in the third to blow the lead out to 92-28.

Tiger reserves finished out the game, as Hopkinsville was outscored by the Falcons in the final quarter 16-9.

James Nicholas led a balanced attack for Hopkinsville with 16 points. Alijah Watts had 15. Bryce Smith connected for 13. Jacarius Burkes and Tefrell Tolliver added 12 points each. For the Falcons, Cameron Johnson led the way with 15 points. Marcus Averhart and Jordan Clark added 8 points apiece.

With the win, Hopkinsville ends a four game losing streak and improves to 5-9 on the season. The loss drops the Falcons to 2-5 on the season. It was Fort Campbell’s first game since December 11.
