Lady Tigers Fall at Graves County

The Hopkinsville High School girls’ basketball team went on the road to Mayfield on Tuesday, losing 79-52 to the Graves County Lady Eagles.  The Lady Tigers have a three-game losing streak snapped, and now stand at 14-5 on the year.  The Lady Eagles move to 13-6, and have won 4 of their last 5.

Graves jumped ahead in the first quarter, taking a 25-14 lead after the first eight minutes.  The Lady Tigers only managed 9 second-quarter points, with the Lady Eagles adding 17 more to take a 42-23 halftime lead.  Junior point guard Breon Oldham and junior forward Jayla Rose led the Lady Tigers with 7 points each.

Hopkinsville struggled offensively in the third quarter as well, getting outscored by 11 points in the frame and heading into the final quarter trailing by 30 at 63-33.  The Lady Tigers had their highest-scoring quarter in the fourth, tacking on 19 points to the Lady Eagles’ 16 for the final 79-52 score.

Rose’s 20 points led Hoptown, followed by junior guard Yogianah McKnight’s 11.  Oldham finished with 7, freshman Lakayla Samuel had 5, and senior point guard London Foster, sophomore guard Anna King, and sophomore forward Dominique Moore had 3 each.

The Lady Tigers will need to regroup over the next few days before they host 8th District rivals Christian County (14-4) on Friday.  Both teams enter the game unbeaten in district play.
