Rebels Lose Heartbreaker to Logan County (w/PHOTOS)

A tight battle resulted in a tough district loss for the Todd Central Rebels Thursday night. The Logan County Cougars rallied from an early deficit and edged out the Rebels 64-62 in Elkon.

Early on in the contest, it looked like the Rebels might try to run off and hide on the Cougars. Behind the play of Nolan Barrow, the Rebels got out to a 21-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Barrow scored 10 of the Rebels 21 points during the quarter.

However, the Cougars were not going to go quietly in this district battle. Logan County came roaring back, outscoring the Rebels in the second quarter 18-10, to tie the game at 31-31 at the half. Senior Austin Rayno led the rally for Logan County with 10 points in the quarter. Logan County’s rally then set up a tight battle for the rest of the contest.

The Cougars outscored the Rebels in the 3rd quarter 15-11 to take a 4 point lead, at 46-42 into the final quarter. Rayno continued to play big for Logan County, throwing in another seven points in the quarter.

The two teams battled it out during the 4th quarter. Logan County connected on only two field goals in the quarter. But, the Cougars knocked down 14 of 17 free throws down the stretch to secure the two point district win.

Nolan Barrow had another big night for the Rebels in the loss, as he scored 24 points and added seven assists. Tashaun Foster added 14, and John Calvery had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Logan County was paced by Austin Rayno, who came up big with 26 points in the contest. Kelby Epley added 15 points.

The loss drops Todd County to 9-7, while Logan County improves to 9-10.
