Lady Colonels Survive Hoptown Threes in 57-44 Win

Christian County Coach Kiki Radford was worried about how her team would play after a 16-day layoff due to game postponements. After a sluggish first quarter, she was pleased with a 12-0 second quarter run that ignited the Lady Colonels to a 57-44 win over Eighth District rival Hopkinsville Thursday night at Tiger Gym.

Hopkinsville hit three first quarter 3-pointers to grab a 14-13 lead despite eight points and six rebounds in the first quarter by Christian County’s Trinitee Jackson, who earlier in the day signed to play college basketball at Arkansas State University.

Christian County tuned up their fast break in the second quarter and used a 12-0 run to build a 31-20 lead just before intermission.

Sophomore Eniya McGee scored seven of her nine points in the third quarter as Christian County built a 46-28 lead after 24 minutes. However, Hopkinsville had a run left in them. London Foster and Anna King each knocked down two 3-pointers to cut the lead to 50-42 with 3:32 left.

Jackson responded with four straight points, and Hoptown never got the deficit back into single digits. Radford was worried how she would respond emotionally just hours after her signing ceremony. Jackson had 22 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Aaliyah Hampton had 11 points, and Laderia Gold had 10 points and five assists.

Hoptown hit nine 3-pointers in the game, four of those by London Foster who finished with a team-high 14 points. Breon Oldham scored 10 points, and Yogi McKnight and Jayla Rose each scored seven points.

Christian County improved to 15-4 with the win and will host Apollo Saturday.

Hopkinsville drops to 14-7 with their fourth straight loss. They host Muhlenberg County Friday night.
