Todd County Central’s quest for its first 16-win basketball season since 2004 came up just short Saturday night with a 57-56 home loss to Warren East. The Rebels (15-12) led 40-33 after a Tayshaun Foster basket with 5:56 to play in the third quarter. Whitney’s biggest play came in the final seconds of the game when he blocked a Rebels’ 3-point attempt out of bounds. Todd inbounded the ball but John Calvery’s layup at the buzzer wasn’t enough for the Rebels.

Todd led by as much as 38-30 at the 6:40 mark of the third quarter.

The Rebels were able to rally in the fourth quarter behind the play of Nolan Barrow and Clayte Weathers. Both players hit 3-point shots, as Todd drew within 53-50.

Barber missed the front end of two free throw opportunities in the final 1:15. However, the Rebels misfired on six of their final seven attempts.

Barrow led Todd with 28 points and Weathers finished with 12.

The Rebels return to action Thursday night in their season finale at home against Caldwell County.
