Dawson Springs Stuns Hopkins Central in Girls 7th District (w/PHOTOS)

The Dawson Springs Lady Panthers had not played within 17 points of the Hopkins Central Lady Storm during the regular season. That stat mattered not in the least Monday night as the Lady Panthers out hustled, out scrapped, and generally outplayed the Lady Storm from beginning to end in a 46-30 upset win Monday night in the 7th District tournament.

Neither team got much going early. The Lady Panthers were able to inch out to a 8-5 lead after the first quarter. Holding a 9-6 lead early in the 2nd quarter, Dawson Springs went on an 8-0 run to push the lead out to 17-6. The half ended with the Lady Panthers in front 19-8.

Not much changed in the 3rd quarter, as Dawson Springs extended the lead out to 31-14 by the end of the quarter. Hopkins Central made one last ditch effort to get back in the game, cutting the lead to ten at 33-2

3. However, the Lady Panthers scored the next six points to effectively end the threat.

Hopkins Central led only once in the game, that coming at 5-4 in the first quarter.

Dawson Springs got a spectacular effort from Brooklyn Cotton, who was not only big in her scoring, but handled the Lady Storm pressure bringing the ball upcourt and getting the Lady Panthers into their offense.

Dawson Springs improved to 12-18 overall and advances to the championship game against Caldwell County. Hopkins Central’s season ends at 14-16.
