Todd County Central can add a district championship trophy to their trophy case for the first time in 15 years after they knocked off Franklin-Simpson 63-51 Friday to win the 13th District title at Logan County.

The Rebels exploited their free throw advantage and hit the shots they needed to in order to hold off a second half surge from the four-seed Wildcats.

Up 15-10 after one quarter, the Rebels used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to build a 27-16 lead by halftime. Franklin-Simpson got the deficit into single digits several times, but Todd County was able to continually get to the free throw line to stave off the Wildcats.

Nolan Barrow hit 17-of-18 free throws in the game and finished with a game-high 26 points in being named the tournament MVP. As a team, Todd County hit 25-of-36 free throws, while the Wildcats labored at the line in hitting 9-of-21.

Jon Calvery added 14 points for the Rebels, and Austin Rager scored 10 points.

Alex Gilbert led Franklin-Simpson (7-22) with 14 points.

Todd County Central (18-12) has secured their first winning season since 2004, and their 18 wins are the most in a season since 2002.

The Rebels will advance to next week’s Fourth Region Tournament at Diddle Arena where they will play either Warren Central (26-5), Monroe County (19-10), or Clinton County (18-12).
