Hoptown Comes Out Smelling Like Roses in Region Win

Hopkinsville used their speed and press to blitz Crittenden County 75-40 in the first round of the Second Region Tournament Monday at Webster County. The 35-point win was Hopkinsville’s largest in region tourney history.

Hoptown jumped out to a 13-1 lead early as they forced Crittenden into 11 first half turnovers. Jayla Rose was the biggest beneficiary of the press, racking up 11 of her game-high 25 points in the opening frame.

Donisha Flowers came off the bench to score six points in the second quarter as the Lady Tigers took their 23-13 first quarter lead and extended it to 43-23 at halftime.

Both Anna King and London Foster knocked down three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points. Breon Oldham had another steady game with 12 points and five steals. Yogi McKnight added eight points.

Madison Champion led Crittenden County (15-14) with 13 points, while Shelby Summers scored seven, and Mauri Collins added eight points.

Hopkinsville (20-10) picked up their 20th win for the second straight year. They will play Webster County Friday in the semifinals at 6pm in Dixon. The two teams did not meet in the regular season.
