The Christian County Lady Colonels took advantage of the struggles of Hopkinsville pitching Thursday evening to pick up their second three inning win in as many games. Christian County cruised to the 18-0 win over the Lady Tigers in the game that was moved to Christian County High School due to field conditions at Hopkinsville High School.

Hopkinsville missed an opportunity in the opening inning to get on the board. Lauren Hodge walked to open the game and following wild pitch and a ground out was on third with only one out in the top of the 1st inning. However, Christian County pitcher Lexie O’Daniel was able to get a strike out and a fly out to end the inning without the run crossing the plate.

Christian County did not take long to get things going in the bottom of the first. A hit batter and two Hopkinsville errors allowed the Lady Colonels to take a 1-0 lead. Taylor Shemwell then came up and hit a 3-run blast to put Christian County up 4-0, and the big inning was on. By the time the inning was over, Christian County was up 9-0. The Lady Colonels were aided by four walks from Hopkinsville pitchers.

After Hopkinsville went down in order in the top of the 2nd, the Lady Colonels got back to business. Christian County scored five more runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Again, Hopkinsville pitchers struggled to find the strike zone, giving up six more walks in the inning.

Hopkinsville went down in order in the top of the 3rd. When Christian County came to bat in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Colonels quickly finished out the game. Macy Lancaster was hit by a pitch. Halle Hendricks got on base thanks to an error. Hope Jones then walked to load the bases. Emmy Blane, with a full count, hit a pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam to end the game.

The Lady Colonels scored their 18 runs on only five hits, two of those being the home runs by Shemwell and Blane. Blane also had a double in the game. Lexie O’Daniel went all three innings for Christian County, giving up no hits, striking out three, and walking only one.

Lauren Hodge was the only Lady Tiger to reach base in the three innings.
