Tigers Roar Back to Edge Graves County

The Caldwell County baseball team used 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to come from behind and beat the Graves County Eagles 8-7 on Saturday at the Big Orange Classic at Marshall County.  The Tigers improve to 2-1 with the win.

Caldwell had its bats going early, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when senior C/IF/OF Dylan Gray doubled to score junior P/OF Gabe East, with senior IF/P Jase Ryan Felker scoring on the throw.  Senior IF/P Bryce Thomas grounded out to bring in Gray, and the Tigers led 3-0.  They added another in the bottom of the 2nd when senior IF/P Noah Brown reached on an error and junior OF/P Oliver Parker scored.

Graves County scored 3 runs over the 3rd and 4th innings, cutting the Tiger lead to 4-3.  Caldwell answered with Felker reaching on an error in its half of the 4th, allowing sophomore IF/P Cody Holub to score.

The Eagles tied the game with 2 runs in the top of the 5th, and took a 7-5 lead with 2 more runs in the 6th.  Caldwell staged its comeback in the bottom of the 7th, trimming the lead to 1 when Gray scored on a ground out by Parker.  Holub walked with the bases loaded, scoring Thomas and tying the game at 7.  Brown singled on a line drive to left field, bringing in senior 1B/P Shane Burns with the winning run.

Thomas earned the win for the Tigers, getting four outs with no hits or runs, striking out two and walking five.  Burns started the game and went two innings, not allowing a hit or a run and striking out four.  Junior IF/P Chase Carrico took the loss for Graves County, giving up three hits and 3 runs, striking out one and walking four.

Brown had 2 RBI for Caldwell, going 2-4 and scoring a run.  Gray was 2-3 with 2 RBI and scored twice.  Holub had two hits as well, knocking in a run and scoring once.

The Tigers host 1-0 Dawson Springs on Tuesday in Princeton, the first 7th District match-up for both teams.
