The Trigg County softball team took its 2-0 record on the road on Saturday, dropping two contests to fall to .500 on the year. The Lady Wildcats were on the wrong end of a tight, 3-2 result against Allen County-Scottsville, before letting a lead slip to lose 9-5 to Boyle County.
The Lady Wildcats fell behind 2-0 to Allen County-Scottsville in the bottom of the fourth inning, before picking up a run when sophomore Raelyn Marlowe scored on a single by junior Logan Darnall. They cut the lead to 1 on a single by junior Madison Simpson that scored junior Autumn Durham, but couldn’t find the tying run and fell 3-2.
Junior Hannah Colbert took the loss for Trigg, going the distance and allowing 3 runs, 1 earned, on four hits with thirteen strikeouts. Junior Karley Burchett earned the win for the Lady Patriots, allowing eight hits and 1 earned run with three strikeouts over five innings.
Darnall was 3-3 at the plate for the Lady Wildcats, drawing a walk and driving in a run. Simpson finished 2-3 with an RBI, and Durham had a hit and a run scored.
In the second game, Trigg took a 2-0 lead in the opening frame on a double by Simpson that brought home Darnall and freshman Kara Southwood. The Lady Rebels answered with a run in their half of the first, and after Trigg freshman Adri Phillips scored on an error, Allen County-Scottsville scored 3 in the bottom of the second to take a 4-3 lead.
The Lady Wildcats regained the lead at 5-4 with 2 runs in the top of the third, with Durham scoring on a sacrifice by junior Julia Rhone, and Phillips reaching on an error to get Simpson across. The Lady Rebels blew the game open with 4 runs in the bottom of the third, before adding a run in their half of the sixth for the final 9-5 score.
Colbert went six innings for the Trigg County, taking her second loss of the day. She allowed six hits and 9 runs, although only 1 was earned, striking out five and walking two. Senior Kelly Lay recorded the win for Boyle County, working 4.1 innings of four hit softball, giving up 5 runs, 2 earned, while striking out five and walking two.
Simpson drove in 2 and had a hit and a run scored, with Darnall going 3-4 and crossing the plate once. Rhone added an RBI, and Southwood, Durham, and Phillips each scored a run.
The Lady Wildcats are off until next Friday, when they cross state lines to take on Stewart County, TN.
