Lady Rebels Outlast Hopkinsville 14-13

The final scored looked more like a matchup between the football teams at Todd County Central and Hopkinsville. The Lady Rebels lost a big lead in the top of the 7th inning and then found a way to win in walkoff fashion in the bottom of the inning in pulling out a 14-13 win over the Lady Tigers Thursday night in Elkton.

The fireworks started early in this one, as both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Marley Hancock got things rolling for Hopkinsville with a two run home run. In the bottom of the inning, Michaela Robertson connected for an RBI double, and then later scored on a wild pitch.

Hopkinsville got the lead right back in the top of the second with two more runs. Marley Hancock had an RBI double, and then scored on a single by Shelby Harbour. The Lady Rebels roared right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-4 lead. Sophomore Whitney Higgins did the damage with a grand slam for Todd County Central.

The Lady Tigers did not stay down long, as they scored two runs in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at 6-6. This time it was Makenzie Carter with a triple to drive in Shaniyah Straight and Taiya Straight.

It looked like the Lady Rebels took firm control of the game in the bottom of the 4th, as they plated six runs to take a 12-6 lead. Rachel Bilyeu and Samantha Case combined to drive in three runs in the inning with a pair of triples.

Hopkinsville cut the lead to 12-8 with a pair of runs in the top of the 5th. Todd County Central extended the lead to 13-8 with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning, setting up the 7th inning fireworks.

Todd County pitcher Samantha Case issued three straight walks to open the top of the 7th. Morgan Hodge drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 13-9. Lauren Hodge then singled to load the bases again. After working the count to 3-2, Marley Hancock then crushed a shot to left field for her second home run of the night, this time a grand slam to tie the game at 13-13.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Lady Rebels loaded the bases on three straight walks. Addye Sawyers then ended the game with a single to left field.

Whitney Higgins had a big night for the Lady Rebels, going 2-5 with 4 RBIs. Rachel Bilyeu, Paige Rager, and Addye Sawyers all had two hits and two RBI’s for Todd County Central.

A spectacular night for Hopkinsville’s Marley Hancock, who went 4-5, with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. Makenzie Carter was 3-3 with 4 RBIs in the game.
