Errors Doom Rebels in Loss to Butler County

The Todd County Central baseball team committed eleven errors, including five in a 17-run first inning, on the way to a 23-3 loss to the visiting Butler County Bears on Friday night.  The loss is the Rebels’ second of the season to the Bears, leaving them at 2-12 on the season.  Butler County improves to 8-7 overall.

The Rebels found themselves down 20-2 after two innings, before sophomore Dylan Hurt relieved starter Nick Tutor.  Hurt held the Bears scoreless in the third and fourth frames, and the Rebels got on the board with 3 runs in the bottom of the third.  In the top of the fifth the Bears added 3 more runs for the 23-3 victory.

Tutor took the loss, lasting 2.0 innings and allowing 20 unearned runs on seventeen hits with a couple of strikeouts.  Hurt worked 3.0 innings, giving up 3 unearned runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk.  Hurt and 8th grader Tanner Farmer each had an RBI, with Tutor, sophomore Bryce Nolan, junior Pedro Gonzalez, senior McKinley Griggs, and 7th grader Preston Rager each getting a hit.

Sophomore Ross West earned the win for Butler County, pitching 2.0 innings with two hits and three strikeouts.  Senior Gage Ward was 5-6 with 4 RBI, joined by freshman Chance Castlen with three hits and 4 RBI.

The Rebels will be in action again on Tuesday, going on the road to face Russellville.  The Rebels beat the Panthers 5-2 in Elkton on April 10.
