As the recent weather has warmed up, Trigg County’s bats have cooled off. The Wildcats scored 14 runs in a 14-5 win at Hopkinsville April 24. They have scored nine runs in the four games since, winning just once.
The latest came Tuesday when Murray, losers of eight of their last nine games, pounded the Wildcats 10-3 at the Complex.
Five of Murray’s 11 hits were of the extra base variety, and the Tigers took advantage of four Trigg errors that led to a pair of unearned runs.
The first three batters in the Murray lineup – Ethan Back, Tripp Zhang, and Kade Gibson – combined for six hits and scored three runs.
Murray scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings and broke the game open with four runs in the fifth.
Trigg County had six hits in the game off sophomore Bradley Dawson. Riley Stallons had a single, double, and triple. Darrin Brown had two hits, and Nick Ahart had a triple.
Arlon Butts allowed six hits and struck out six in his first varsity start. He walked just one despite being handed the loss.
Dawson got the pitching win for Murray. He struck out seven and didn’t walk anyone. None of Trigg’s three runs were earned.
After an 8-3 start to the season, Trigg County has dropped five of their last seven games.
The Wildcats (10-8) return to action Thursday at Livingston Central.
