A six year streak effectively ended with the second batter of the game Thursday night. A year to the day after the last time they beat the Madisonville Lady Maroons, the Christian County Lady Colonels did it again, and just like in 2012, they did it on the Lady Maroons home field.

Christian County got a strong pitching performance from Lexie O’Daniel, and a big night at the plate from Emmy Blane to pick up a 7-1 statement win over Madisonville.

The Lady Colonels came out of the gate focused and ready to go, scoring five runs before the Lady Maroons had the chance to pick up a bat. The big hit in the inning came from Emmy Blane, who hit a two run homer to stun Madisonville just two batters into the game. By the time the Lady Maroons recovered, they were already down 5-0.

Meanwhile, Lexie O’Daniel came up with one of her biggest pitching performances of the season, holding Madisonville to only one hit through the first five innings, and setting the Lady Maroons down in order in three of the first five innings.

After the Lady Colonels score five runs in the first inning, the pitchers controlled the game until the top of the 6th inning. In the 6th, Christian County got a couple of insurance runs in the top of the inning when Emmy Blane singled and drove in Macey Dukes and Macy Lancaster to stretch the lead to 7-0.

Madisonville finally got on the board in the bottom of the 6th, as they came up with back to back doubles from Acacia Gray and Mykayla Spurlin to cut the lead to 7-1. However, that was the only serious threat of the night by the Lady Maroons, who went quietly in the bottom of the 7th to finish out the game.

Emmy Blane led the Lady Colonels, going 2-4 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Taylor Shemwell was 3-4 with 2 RBIs, while Reni Shemwell was 2-4 in the game.

In the circle, O’Daniel gave up the one run, on four hits, striking out 12, while walking only one.

The win was the first over Madisonvile for the Lady Colonels since May 3, 2012. It was also the first loss for the Lady Maroons to a 2nd Region team since early in the 2014 season, when they fell to Union County.
