Hoptown Halts Skid With Win at Hopkins Central

Hopkinsville starter Logan Durst scattered three hits over five innings and the Tiger bats came to life to halt an eleven-game losing streak with a 15-0 win over Hopkins County Central in Morton’s Gap on Saturday.  The victory moves the Tigers to 8-18 on the year, while the Storm slip to 5-17.

John Duvall and Robert Justus had RBI singles in the first to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.  They added 5 more in the second, highlighted by RBI doubles by Caleb Bapp and Blake Balthrop to stretch the lead to 9-0, before another run in the fourth gave the Tigers their first double-digit lead since a 25-0 win over Russellville almost a month ago.

Hoptown put the finishing touches on the win with 5 runs in the top of the fifth, with Michael Graham tripling-in 2 runs.  Durst struck-out two of the final three Storm batters in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Durst struck-out five over five innings for the win, also collecting two hits and an RBI.  Balthrop was 4-4 with 2 driven-in, Duvall and Graham both had three hits and 3 RBI, and Layne Jorgensen was 2-3 with 2 RBI.  Bapp and Justus both had a couple of hits and a run driven-in, and Landon Snyder got a hit and an RBI.

Colin Garrett lasted only 1.1 innings in taking the loss for the Storm, yielding 9 runs, 8 earned, on ten hits while striking-out two.

The Tigers return to action on Monday when they face the 16-8 Marshall County Marshalls.
