Caldwell County Falls to Murray on Walk-Off Hit

Alexis Burpo’s single in the eighth inning gave Murray a walk-off 9-8 win over Caldwell County Thursday in Murray.

Caldwell County had tied the game in the seventh when Allie Felker squeezed home Mashea Glover. They took an 8-7 lead in the eighth when Shelby Lane singled home Peyton Young, who began the inning at second base as part of the international tiebreaker rule.

Madi Choate hit a two-run homer as part of a six-run fifth inning that put Caldwell up 6-2. Murray answered with five runs in the home half of the sixth inning setting the stage for the late inning heroics.

Lane finished with three hits and two RBIs for Caldwell, and Emma Staples added a pair of hits.

Burpo, Calli Carver, and Emily Dawson each had two hits for Murray (13-20), who improved to 6-6 against Second Region schools.

Caldwell County (14-10) will play in the McCracken County round robin Saturday.
