Unlike the rest of the meet, the weather held off for Saturday afternoon’s second round of the Class 2A KHSAA Track & Field State Tournament. The 2A class began Friday afternoon but only four events were completed before multiple flash flood watches led to the postponement.

Friday’s first session began with the Trigg County Lady Wildcats placing 22nd in the 4X800 Meter Relay with a time of 11:30.64.

It was their lone race before the postponement.

On Saturday, it was a rough start for Trigg County as they failed to finish in the boys 4X200 Meter Relay.

However, things turned around quickly with the 4X100 Meter Relay. The Lady Wildcats improved seven spots and dropped nearly a second to finish 15th with a time of 52.84.

Also in the 4X100 Meter Relay, the boys of Trigg County managed to improve a whopping 10 spots by finishing in 12th place with a time of 45.75.

Lady Wildcat and freshman sensation DeDe Barbee had an off afternoon, going from the eighth seed (1:00.8) in the 400 Meter Dash to finishing in 12th place (62.16). After a strong season, though, Barbee shows high promise for the future of her career.

In the boys 800 Meter Run, Trigg County’s Tyler Freeman added four seconds (2:14.26 to 2:18.82) but managed to finish in 21st place (one spot ahead of his seed).

Tayshaun Barker finished 22nd in the Triple Jump with a distance of 37-09.50.

Getting back to the Lady Wildcats, Livi Ricks had the challenge of the 3200 Meter Run. She responded by improving from the 22nd seed to placing 21st with a time of 14:26.70.

To round out the meet, the Lady Wildcats ran their respective 4X400 relay. They finished 20th overall by recording a time of 4:31.37.
