Area Players Named to Class 1A All-State Teams

Sophie Bingham - Lyon County

Five high school softball players in the area are among those honored by being selected to the Class 1A All State Teams. The Class 1A All State team members are selected from schools which are in the smallest 1/3, based on enrollment.

Two players from Caldwell County, two from Lyon County, and one from Todd County Central were recognized on the teams, which were released Sunday.

Katie Franklin – Caldwell County

From Caldwell County, junior catcher Mashea Glover was named to the Class 1A 1st team, while junior pitcher Katie Franklin was named to the 2nd team.

Glover hit .517 on the season with nine home runs and 42 runs driven in.  She also led the Lady Tigers with 25 extra base hits.  She also had a .987 fielding percentage from her catching position.

Franklin was 14-11 in the circle for the Lady Tigers with a 2.03 ERA.  She struck out 212 batters in 164 innings pitched.  At the plate, she hit .283 with a pair of home runs.

Mashea Glover – Caldwell County

From Lyon County, senior pitcher Sophie Bingham was named to the 1st team, while freshman shortstop Calista Collins was named Honorable Mention.

Bingham graduates from Lyon County holding just about every pitching record.  She struck out 170 batters in 130 innings and had an ERA of 3.25.  At the plate, Bingham batted .367 with nine extra base hits.

Collins led the Second Region in batting at .604 and added eight home runs and 42 RBIs.

Calista Collins – Lyon County

From Todd County Central, senior 1st baseman Micheala Robertson was selected as Honorable Mention.  Robertson, who has signed with Brescia University, hit .574 for the Lady Rebels with a pair of home runs and 15 RBIs.  She also had a .983 fielding percentage.

All-State teams are voted on by coaches who are members of the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association.
