Lady Sluggers Premier Go 1-3 in Alabama Pool Play

A tough start to the weekend in a tournament in Calera, Alabama, for three Caldwell County Lady Tigers and their Louisville Lady Sluggers Premier-JB team. The team was involved in pool play for the tournament on Friday and Saturday, and went 1-3.

In their first game on Friday, they were shutdown by the Birmingham Mustangs 01 16U by a score of 1-0. A pair of pitchers for the Birmingham team held the Lady Sluggers without a hit. The only player for the Lady Sluggers to reach base was Emma Staples, who drew a walk in the bottom of the 5th inning. Katie Franklin pitched two innings for the Lady Sluggers, giving up one run on two hits, striking out one and walking one.

Later on Friday, the Lady Sluggers dropped a 6-2 decision to The Hit Squad 03. Katie Franklin went 1-2 in the game, while Mashea Glover and Emma Staples were both 0-2. Franklin went two innings in the circle, giving up two runs on two hits.

In their first game Saturday morning, the Lady Sluggers dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Prospex Prospex Gold 02-Brown 16U. Franklin was 1-2 at the plate, while Staples and Glover were both 0-2 on the game. Franklin went 1 1/3 innings in the circle, giving up no runs, on one hit, while striking out two.

The Lady Sluggers picked up their first win of the event later Saturday, as they defeated Goodwin Going Yard 16U 7-2. Emma Staples was 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Mashea Glover went 2-2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Katie Franklin was 0-2. In the circle, Franklin went one inning, giving up no runs on no hits, and walked one.
