Christian County gave Matthew Gibson his first win as Colonel head coach with a 3-1 win at Franklin-Simpson Monday. The game was postponed from Thursday due to bad weather and moved to Monday.

The Colonels wasted no time in jumping ahead when Kenton Lancaster fed Luke Ferrell for a goal four minutes into the match.

Yeffrey Macario scored midway through the first half for a 2-0 lead that held up at halftime.

Franklin-Simpson (0-2) got on the board early in the second half before Macario scored again from a free kick in the 78th minute to provide the all-important insurance goal.

The Colonels’ defense, who held University Heights to a season-low four goals in the opener, came up big again Monday.

Christian County will travel to Graves County Thursday before returning to the Stadium of Champions Saturday for their home opener with Owensboro Catholic.
