Christian County needed just eight games this year to match their win total from their 2017 girls’ soccer season. Their fifth win came Thursday 3-0 over Trigg County at the Stadium of Champions.

While the upperclassmen got the job done on defense and the midfield, it was the Lady Colonel freshman who took care of the offense.

Christian County kept pressure on Trigg County’s defense all night, taking 23 shots and forcing Lady Wildcat goalie Julia Rhone to make 13 saves.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half, although Christian County was the aggressor. The Lady Colonels finally dented the scoreboard in the 51st minute when Lexi Hendrix made a crossing pass to Autumn Bell who knocked it home for her sixth goal of the season.

Christian County quickly added another tally when Emma Fleming scored in front. Fleming and Bell are both freshmen who are tied for the team lead with six goals.

In the 74th minute, another freshman, Lillie Larkins scored her fourth goal of the season to round out the scoring.

Payton Hale only saw six shots in the game and made three saves for the Lady Colonels, who notched their third shutout of the season.

Trigg County meanwhile was shut out for the third straight game and the fifth time this season. It marks the first time in 14 years the Lady Wildcats have not scored in three straight matches.

Trigg County (2-8) will look to snap their losing streak Tuesday when they host Crittenden County in a Fifth District matchup at the Complex.

Christian County (5-3) will travel to Henderson County Saturday to play the Lady Colonels of the North.
