After not playing since August 23rd, one could have understood if the UHA Lady Blazer volleyball team had opened their match against Webster County Tuesday night looking a little bit “rusty.” That, however was not the case, as the Lady Blazers cruised to a straight set win over the Lady Trojans.

UHA came “blazing” out of the gate in the opening set. The Lady Blazers jumped out to a 10-2 lead and were never seriously threatened for the rest of the set. UHA would roll on through the set for a 25-9 win.

However, the Webster County Lady Trojans were determined not to let it be too easy for the Lady Blazers. After seeing UHA open the second set 5-0, Webster County battled back to tie the match at 5-5. From that point, the two teams battled back and forth for most of the set. UHA was able to inch out to a 24-19 lead, but the Lady Trojans closed to within 24-23 before UHA was able to get the next point to win the set 25-23.

Webster County continued to give the Lady Blazers a battle in the early part of the third set, with the set being tied at 2, 4 6, and 7. UHA then went on a spurt to take the lead at 17-9. They would then roll on to take the third set 25-15 to complete the sweep.

The Blazers served 17 team aces, led by Lily Hendricks with 8, and Evelyn Morales with 4. Morales led UHA at the net with a team high 7 kills. Meg Adams buried six, while Aisha Pantiere, Katie Beth Stevens, and Lily Hendricks added 4 kills a piece.

UHA improves to 11-2 on the season. Up next for the Lady Blazers is a trip Friday to Richmond for this weekend’s All A State Volleyball tournament.
