The Trigg County boys’ soccer team took a 1-0 lead into the final 10 minutes of their match at Paducah Tilghman on Tuesday night, but surrendered 2 late goals to fall 2-1.  The Wildcats drop to 9-3 overall, while the Blue Tornado win their third-straight to improve to 7-6-1.

Trigg County had a chance to take the lead with 16 minutes left in the opening half, but Will Jolly’s penalty kick rolled wide of the post and the teams were scoreless at the break.  Ten minutes into the second half, Jolly picked out Elijah Gaines with a free kick and Gaines scored off a header to give the Wildcats the lead.

With the clock winding down, Wildcat goalkeeper Matthew Smith came up with a point-blank stop to deny Tilghman’s Ivan Aburto, but Aburto was able to steer the rebound into the net to tie the game.  With just over 4 minutes to play, Jackson Mundy picked the ball up just inside his own half and dribbled unopposed for 40 yards up the middle of the field before smacking a left-footed shot into the far side netting to send the Wildcats to their second loss in three games.

The Wildcats outshot the Blue Tornado 5-3, with Smith making 2 saves in a losing effort.

After 6 games in 9 days, Trigg County is off until Monday when they host St. Mary (4-9) in a boy/girl doubleheader.  Paducah Tilghman returns to the field on Thursday when they host Ballard Memorial (0-10-1).
