Waiting Game Cruel For Folz at Region Tourney

9-27-folz

Hopkinsville sophomore James Folz put up a six-over-par 77 Thursday at the Region Two Golf Tournament at the Madisonville Country Club. Then he had to wait to see if the score would hold up and allow him to qualify for the state tournament. And he waited. And he had to wait even longer until the final group came off the course to find out he missed qualifying by a single shot.

Folz shot a 35 on the back nine, which was the first nines holes he played on the rainy and chilly day. He shot a 42 on the front nine to finish with a 77. Two golfers shot a 76 and Madisonville’s Jackson Hill fired a 74. The top two teams and next three low scores not from the top two teams qualify for the state tournament.

Evan Pyle shot a 91 for Hoptown, followed by Will Binkley (93), Joey Falco (104), and Calvin Demps (107). As a team, Hopkinsville finished in eighth place with a team score of 365.

Owensboro Catholic’s Jakob Wellman won the region title with an even par 72. Daviess County won the team title, and Owensboro Catholic was second.
