2nd-Half Goal Sees Blazers Past Wildcats

The UHA boys’ soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead over visiting Trigg County on Thursday, before finishing off the 3-2 victory with a goal early in the second half.  The Wildcats fought back with 2 goals before the half, but suffer their fourth loss of the season to stand at 10-4.  The Blazers win for the second time in three outings to improve to 8-3-1 overall.

Tanner Thomas gave the Blazers an early lead off an assist from Ian Calvert, before Will Bryan doubled the lead 15 minutes in off another Calvert pass.  Elijah Gaines pulled one back for Trigg County 2 minutes later when he cleaned up a rebound off a free kick by Will Jolly.  With just over 10 minutes left in the half, Daniel Martin got his head on the end of a free kick from Keller Nichols to tie the game at the break.

Calvert finished off his big night with a goal off a pass from Bryan 4 minutes into the second half, and the Blazer defense held firm the rest of the way for the win.

Dan Johnson made 9 saves to earn the win, while the Wildcats’ Matthew Smith saved 7 of the 10 shots he faced.

Up next for the Blazers is a match against Mayfield (7-9-1) at Givens Field on Saturday.  The Wildcats will also be in action Saturday, going on the road to face Graves County (10-7).
