The Madisonville Maroons got all the points they would need in the 2nd quarter Friday night as they picked up a big district win over Hopkinsville. The Maroons found the end zone twice in the quarter and their defense made it stand up, as Madisonville blanked the Tigers 14-0 on the Maroons home field.

Neither team could get much going early in the contest. Hopkinsville did get deep into Maroon territory in the opening quarter, but Ellis Dunn came up short on a 4th down play and the drive was stopped.

The Maroons broke the ice with just under nine minutes to go in the opening quarter when Aaron Miller scampered in from three yards out to put Madisonville up 7-0.

A special teams play set up the Maroons next score less than two minutes later. One play after blocking a Tiger punt, Madisonville struck paydirt when Jeriah Hightower ran it in to extend the lead to 14-0.

Hopkinsville made another deep drive into the Maroons side of the field, but was stopped short of the goalline with less than ten seconds to go in the half.

In the second half, both teams would have their opportunities to get into the end zone, but neither team could punch it in over the final 24 minutes, as the Maroons held on for the 14-0 win.

Madisonville improves to 5-2 overall, and 3-0 in the district. The Maroons can wrap up the district title in two weeks with a win over Logan County.

With their third loss in a row, Hopkinsville falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the district. The Tigers host Logan County next Friday.
