The Trigg County girls’ soccer team found itself in a first-half hole Thursday night against visiting Madisonville-North Hopkins, and while they improved after the break, slipped to a 6-1 defeat in their final regular-season match.  The Lady Wildcats drop their final two matches to head into the postseason at 4-12-1, while the Lady Maroons finish at 14-2 overall.

Keeli Ashby and Kathleen Ramsey scored to give the Lady Maroons an early 2-0 lead, with things becoming even more difficult for the Lady Wildcats when leading scorer Madisen Ireland went down with an injury 10 minutes in and didn’t return.  Ashby scored twice more before a Trigg own goal gave the Lady Maroons a 5-0 halftime lead.

The Lady Wildcats’ defense proved more difficult to breach in the second half, keeping Madisonville off the scoreboard until Katelyn Morris found the back of the net for a 6-0 lead with 17 minutes to play.  Kara Southwood got behind the Lady Maroon defense inside the last 5 minutes for Trigg’s lone goal.

The Lady Wildcats, the 2nd seed in the 5th district tournament, will begin postseason play against Crittenden County on Monday at Lyon County.  Trigg County is the defending district champion, and they beat the Lady Rockets twice during the regular season.
